A more respectful way of fishing
Our fishing system, bottom trawling, combines tradition and technical innovation. We use trawl doors with no contact with the seabed. We optimise energy efficiency and environmental impact by using a 367 kW (499 hp) propulsion engine, regulated in 2024. We have optimised fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions, making each fishing trip more efficient. We use fishing gear with selective meshes that allow undersized catches to be released; it features a selective codend with 45 mm mesh for coastal fishing and 50 mm mesh for deep-sea fishing.
Certified quality and traceability
The Palamós red shrimp, one of our flagship products, stands out for its Guarantee Label, which ensures exhaustive quality control before and during auction sales. Each box is certified to guarantee quality and traceability from sale to consumption. For fish species weighing more than one kilogram, such as John Dory and hake, each individual is certified with a tag that, via a QR code, provides the buyer with full information about its origin, date and place of capture, and fishing method.
Collaboration and reinforcement
Our company and crew are members of the Palamós Fishermen’s Guild, the Fishery Producers’ Organisation OPP91, the Association of Bottom Trawl Vessel Owners of Palamós, and the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA), among others. We also work closely with scientific institutions such as the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) and the Catalan Institute for Marine Governance Research (ICATMAR), which carry out scientific campaigns on board our vessel.
The experience that guides us
Our fishing technique would not be possible without the transfer of knowledge accumulated generation after generation. Our family has played a key role in promoting fishing and its institutions in the town and port of Palamós. Today, at NOVA MEDA, fully aware of the critical state of marine stocks and the need for their regeneration, we combine ancestral knowledge with modern technologies, responsible practices and resource management to ensure our future in the medium and long term.
